GPS Fleet Tracking Maximizes Profits

Just like households, businesses are looking for ways to cut costs and increase revenue. As you probably know, it is the little things that count and you either earn more one penny at a time or you find that losing dollars started with the loss of a few cents here and there.

You lose money each time an employee speeds and operates company vehicles in a way that is less than fuel efficient.

However, you also get the most for your money every time an employee obeys traffic laws and makes an on-time delivery. Actually, you get over and above money's worth because safe driving and customer satisfaction today pays dividends in the future.

This is where GPS fleet tracking can help. GPS fleet tracking systems do not simply record employee behavior; they also are an excellent record of company behavior. If you take the time to look at the overall picture provided by GPS records, you'll have a better idea of where you need to stop money from flowing out and how you can do more to make money flow in.

For example, maybe traffic on a certain side of town is eroding profit. When you look at the time of say you deliver there, you can make adjustments to the delivery schedule and save on fuel costs. There are so many things you may not notice on a day-to-day basis that will become readily apparent when you can get a more global perspective on making stops and deliveries.

Does Your City Have an Installed GPS (Global Positioning System) Yet?

Here we are starting from the beginning of the topic which we heard as GPS.

For your knowledge the system is for satellite navigation and in real it was designed for military (UNITED STATES) , meanwhile it is controlled by D.O.D Department of defense of U S. Satellite signals are received thru the G.P.S receivers then processed and computed for positions, time and velocity. Three GPS satellite signals are used to compute positions in three dimensions and the time offset in the receiver clock.

SPACE SEGMENT: Is actually Global positioning system satellite which are responsible for sending radio waves (space vehicles are used for). The nominal GPS Operational Constellation consists of 24 satellites that orbit the earth in 12 hours. There are often more than 24 operational satellites as new ones are launched to replace older satellites. The satellite orbits repeat almost the same ground track (as the earth turns beneath them) once each day. The orbit altitude is such that the satellites repeat the same track and configuration over any point approximately each 24 hours (4 minutes earlier each day). There are six orbital planes (with nominally four SVs in each), equally spaced (60 degrees apart), and inclined at about fifty-five degrees with respect to the equatorial plane. This constellation provides the user with between five and eight SVs visible from any point on the earth.

Control Segment: The Control Segment consists of a system of tracking stations located around the world.

The Master Control facility is located at Schreiber Air Force Base (formerly Falcon AFB) in Colorado. These monitor stations measure signals from the SVs which are incorporated into orbital models for each satellites.

The models compute precise orbital data (ephemeris) and SV clock corrections for each satellite. The Master Control station uploads ephemeris and clock data to the SVs. The SVs then send subsets of the orbital ephemeris data to GPS receivers over radio signals.

USER SEGMENT: The GPS User Segment consists of the GPS receivers and the user community. GPS receivers convert SV signals into position, velocity, and time estimates. Three satellites are required to compute the four dimensions of X, Y, Z (position) and Time. GPS receivers are used for navigation, positioning, time dissemination, and other research.

Navigation in three dimensions is the primary function of GPS. Navigation receivers are made for aircraft, ships, ground vehicles, and for hand carrying by individuals. We should let our city government/ it officials to install this technology to find hospitals, restaurants, shops, hotels, desired location, travel locations and much more.

In the back years we had been watching few channels but as time goes we see much advanced technologies implemented. Dish antennas and cable tv services are one of them. But as Internet speed increases people use to watch live tv channels on the internet right from their Personal Computer/Laptop whenever they have time.

Does Anyone Still Use GPS Loran?

There are certainly no doubts about the popularity of the GPS device in the present age. But like every other thing this device too has witnessed gradual development and has evolved over a period of time. A reminiscent of the earlier days of the GPS is the GPS Loran. LORAN or Long Range Navigation is a navigation system designed for the land. This navigation system makes use of low frequency radio transmitters. These radio transmitters in turn use multiple transmitters that determine the location and/or speed of the receiver.

With the advent of the GPS and a number of players in the market offering the device, there has been a steep decrease in the popularity of the LORAN navigator. Nevertheless, the device continues to be in use even today. These days, it is the LORAN-C that is being commonly used. This navigation unit operates in the low frequency portion of the EM spectrum that ranges from 90 to 110 kHz. The United States, Japan and several European countries are using the LORAN-C.

The LORAN-C transmitters operate at peak powers that range from 100 kilowatts to four megawatts. Now, this is quite comparable to the longwave broadcasting stations. These transmitters make use of mast radiators that are insulated from ground. The height of these radiators varies between 190 and 220 meters. The LORAN-C transmitter Carolina Beach makes use of a free-standing antenna tower.

CHAYKA is another navigation system that is on similar lines of LORAN and is being used by Russia. Despite its diminishing usage, there are quite attempts being made to enhance and re-popularize LORAN. This is primarily because the Loran GPS is known as a reliable and simple system.

The development of the Loran is quite interesting. The Loran came into being during the time of the World War II. It was an American development of the British GEE radio navigation system. But the range of the Loran far superseded that of GEE. The LORAN systems had a range of 1,200 miles as compared to 400 miles of the GEE. The US Navy and the Royal Navy made extensive use of this device.

Though a lot of scope is being seen in the loran, it suffers from various limitations that are yet to be overcome. Electronic effects of weather and the ionospheric effects of sunrise and sunset affect the Loran system to a great extent. Being a radio based system; the Loran is affected big time by magnetic storms. Thus there is a need to make the Loran more robust and more adaptable.

There is a need to work out on the GPS Loran and the few flaws that it has. Its reliability and easy usage can taken advantage of provide the required efforts are made.

Garmin StreetPilot c550 GPS Navigator - Video Review

Great Functions with Best Reliability for GPS.

Pros: Bluetooth built in, Large bright touch screen, Garmin is the most reliable in my eyes

Cons: This unit could get a slighter thinner appearance.

Garmin is the number one in my eyes when it comes to GPS systems - they tell you turn on time, have amazing easy to navigate screens, and the settings can be changed in seconds. BLUETOOTH, MP3, and TRAFFIC UPDATES (free 3 months - then a subscription is required for traffic updates). At the end of the day for the price of the smaller units - it makes more sense to get the upgraded models if you like a larger screen and are still in need of a BLUETOOTH device for your car.

I am speaking first hand when I say - I have a 2008 Mercedes E350 and it is easier to input information on this little system than on a complicated factory system. The Mercedes doesn't even have a touch screen...

A perfect gift and something I highly recommend for all drivers, be advise - I always recommend you make your address changes in the stop position...

GPS and the Garmin Nuvi 360

The Garmin nuvi 360 is one of the most versatile and best-looking GPS devices currently on the market. Built on the success of the nuvi 300, this little device features a range of improvements and extra features. One of the biggest new additions is Bluetooth capabilities, which will allow you to use the nuvi 360 as a hands-free kit. You will also be able to dial numbers from this device. Garmin did a great job when they designed the nuvi 360. While it features a seemingly small form factor, the large touch-LCD is bright and displays plenty of useful data.

The nuvi 360 is also small enough to fit anywhere in your vehicle (or pocket), while keeping it easily accessible. This unit also sports an SD Card slot which can be used to load software packages or expand the device memory. Another area where Garmin is marketing this device is for the traveler. For this reason, the nuvi 360 also works great as a handheld GPS navigator. The software also includes various add-ons, aptly named Travel Kit. This is basically a collection of handy software utilities that are really useful when you travel (most impressive of the lot being the Language Guide). Language Guides can be purchased separately on an SD card and contain bilingual dictionaries and multilingual word and phrase banks that support up to nine languages. The Language Guides are also able to pronounce words and sentences. Other handy utilities include an MP3 player, currency converter, world clock, and a travel guide. Bundled with the nuvi 360 is a suction cup vehicle mount with a built-in 12V car charger attached. The software has been developed to make navigating the menu structure easy using your finger.

Bluetooth GPS Vs CF GPS

For some people there is a debate over which to choose a Bluetooth GPS receiver or a compact flash GPS receiver. I have used both so I am writing from experience. There seem to be quite a few advantages a Bluetooth GPS receiver has over a cf GPS receiver.

The main advantage would be versatility, you can use a Bluetooth GPS receiver with a Bluetooth PDA as well as a compatible Bluetooth mobile phone whereas with a cf GPS receiver you are limited to only a compatible PDA as mobile phones usually don't have a cf slot.

Another advantage is with regards to battery life, some Bluetooth GPS receivers have exceptional battery life lasting up to 26 hours, some mobile phones also have a long life, although a PDA won't last anywhere near that, when using a cf GPS receiver the PDA battery is usually depleted faster as the it has to also power the cf receiver since the cf receiver can't work on its own

The third consideration is convenience, one can find some new GPS receivers that are extremely small, the Holux GPSlim 236 comes to mind, because of their size and sensitivity you can stick them in your pocket and still get a very good signal so you don't have anything sticking out of the PDA as is the case with a cf GPS receiver.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of newer PDAs seem to be loosing the compact flash interface, a good example is the Fujitsu Siemens Loox 720, it has being rumoured that the Loox 720 replacement won't be including a cf interface. My conclusion would be it seems that manufacturers don't consider the cf interface that important to include in newer PDAs, kind of like being phased out so it might not be a good idea to invest in cf devices

My final argument would be that when it comes to using a GPS receiver for driving, it is easier to position a Bluetooth GPS receiver in a convenient position where it can receive a better signal than with a cf GPS receiver because since the cf GPS receiver is fixed to the PDA, you are limited by how much you can move the PDA around and still have a good view of the PDA screen.

Based on all these facts I would consider a Bluetooth GPS receiver a better choice to a cf GPS receiver.

Go Places With GPS Navigation Systems

Nothing is as useful as a GPS navigation system. A lot of people around the world are already beginning to discover the advantages of this great piece of technology. If you don't have it yet, then it's about time you learn more about GPS for navigation.

Global Positioning System

GPS stands for global positioning system. It is truly one of a kind because it is the only one that functions as it does. At present, the system is made up of 24 satellites. These satellites are the ones that send signals to receivers which in turn decode them. This allows users to determine their precise location, where they are headed and at what time and speed.

Originally the GPS was intended or reserved for military purposes. Today, GPS is widely used for civil purposes. Various organizations use GPS for surveying, environmental studies, time synchronization and vessel navigation.

Road Navigation

Modern Life - Large organizations aren't the only ones that benefit from GPS navigation systems. These days, any average driver can opt to drive with a GPS system. The major benefit is obvious. Drivers no longer need to ever worry about getting lost or looking for the right people to ask directions from. A GPS system is all a driver needs.

GPS systems for drivers vary in features. You could choose a system that has features that fit your preference and budget. The least expensive car systems are small units that can be plugged and unplugged when desired. These units however require you to exert a little effort to master their features before they can be effectively used.

GPS Units - More expensive units have more features that are easy to use and manipulate. The most popular of these high end units are the ones that have monitor displays. A user can simply take a look at the map on the monitor to find out his location and where he wants to go. Other similar units even have audio functions that accompany the visual displays. A voice prompt can give instructions and locations to users. This is a useful feature that can prevent accidents during travel.

Beyond Navigation

More than its navigation function, mobile phones can now have the GPS integrated into their systems. The GPS function however isn't for navigation but for tracking. This is an equally crucial function. People who may be missing can now be easily located through mobile GPS.

Tracking Purposes - A GPS navigation system and those used for tracking are truly revolutionary. These aren't just modern conveniences though. For many people, a GPS system is becoming a necessity.

A GPS For Business Success

Have you ever been lost or unsure of which direction to take? In today's technologically savvy world, we are less likely to find ourselves in this situation. We have cellular phones on which we can call and ask for directions or log on to the Internet and look up our destination on a map. Many vehicles are now equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) that takes the guesswork out of finding our destination. We simply enter the address of the place we want to go and follow the verbal prompts of the computer. If we fail to obey the prompts, the system will announce "recalculating" and begin to give us new directions. The only way it could get any easier is if the GPS would drive the vehicle for us.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a GPS for business success? If it existed, what kind of information would such a system provide? In an article published in the Journal of Service Research, Gary W. Loveman provides empirical evidence of the service profit chain in a retail setting. The service profit chain is a conceptual framework that links employee satisfaction and loyalty, customer satisfaction and loyalty, and financial performance. This model has been widely used by practitioners however, prior to Loveman's research it had not been rigorously tested by using data that spanned all of the components in the model. Loveman's study provided this rigorous testing and found support for the service profit chain model. Since the financial success of any business depends on people, specifically employees and customers, a GPS for business success should give us vital information about these two groups.

Of course, Loveman's findings represent only one study and in science we know that one study is never the final word on anything. Just as we would not want to try an experimental drug that had only been tested on one small group of people, we should be skeptical of any research findings that have not been replicated. So let's look at a few other studies regarding the importance of employees and customers. While many studies have examined the relationship between job satisfaction, job attitudes, and job performance, few studies have investigated these relationships at an organizational level of analysis. One such groundbreaking study was conducted by C. Ostroff and published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. In this study Ostroff investigated the relationship between employee satisfaction, other job-related attitudes (commitment, adjustment, and psychological stress), and organizational performance. Organizational performance data were collected from almost 300 businesses; and employee satisfaction and attitude data were collected from 13,808 employees within these businesses. The data confirmed Ostroff's hypothesis that employee satisfaction and attitudes have a strong impact on organizational performance, thus providing evidence that employee attitudes do affect the bottom line.

Customer attitudes are equally vital to business success. The average business loses between 10 and 30 percent of its customers each year. Nigel Hill and Jim Alexander in their Handbook of Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty Measurement, Second Edition, state that often businesses do not know which customers they have lost, when they were lost, why they were lost, or how much sales revenue and profit this customer decay has cost them. Their research has revealed that many of these companies do not even worry about the customers they are losing, but rather place more emphasis on winning new customers. The authors compare such companies to a bucket with a hole in the bottom: their customers drain away but the company managers, instead of concentrating on fixing the hole, devote resources to pouring more and more new customers into the top. Dissatisfaction is a fundamental reason for customer decay, but to address the problem you have to know why customers are dissatisfied. Specifically, you need knowledge of the service quality gap. This is the difference between customers' expectations of a service and their perceptions of the actual service delivered by the organization. You also need to know what contributes to the satisfaction of your existing customers in order to keep them. Research has demonstrated that it is much more costly to win one new customer than it is to keep an existing customer. Now back to the question posed earlier:

Q: "Wouldn't it be great if we had a GPS for business success?"

A: Yes, and it does exist!

It exists in the form of research. Just as navigational methods have evolved over time, research and statistical methods have evolved over time and today they can be used to clearly mark the path to business success. Several decades ago, we did not have cellular phones and GPS devices to help us find our way. We had to rely on getting directions ahead of time, either from a person or by studying a map. If we got lost along the way, we had to stop and ask for directions or use a pay phone (remember those?) to call someone for assistance. Alternatively, we could continue driving aimlessly about hoping to find our destination by happenstance. Similarly, there was a time when research methods and statistical techniques were quite primitive compared to the methods available today. Scientists relied heavily on observations and simple correlational techniques. We could determine if two phenomenons were related but determining exactly how they were related was a different matter.

The research methods and statistical techniques available today have tremendous predictive power and can be used as a GPS for business success. These techniques allow organizational psychologists to identify the drivers of your employee's and customer's perceptions. This knowledge equals power. Once these drivers have been identified, you have clear directions regarding the road you should take to success. Let's look at how one private club has used customer surveys to develop customer perceptions well above the national average and to operate a successful business.

A few years ago, a private club with a coastal location, hired the National Business Research Institute (NBRI) to begin conducting research on their very elite customer base. The management of this club was keenly cognizant of the importance of keeping their customers satisfied in order to decrease costs related to customer loss and the recruitment of new customers. NBRI developed a comprehensive customer survey to identify customer perceptions regarding the many products and services provided by the club including their inn and vacation rentals, marina facilities, restaurants, banquet and catering services, gift shop, golf operations, salon and spa, and many others.

When the most recent customer survey results were analyzed, this private club was provided with a topic analysis of the 29 topics their survey addressed. The analysis identified topics as either Best in Class, Strengths, Opportunities, Weaknesses, or Threats. A topic is considered Best in Class if it scores at or above the 90th percentile when compared to benchmarking data. The benchmarking data collected and used for comparison by NBRI includes billions of responses. The score for a topic is considered a Strength if it is at the 75th percentile up to the 89th percentile, and an Opportunity if it scores between the 50th and 74th percentiles, inclusive. Weaknesses include scores between the 25th and 49th percentiles and Threats fall from the 1st to 24th percentiles, inclusive. The club management was pleased to learn their surveying efforts over the past few years were paying off and that none of their topics scored in the Weakness or Threat ranges. Nine of the topics in the club's survey scored in the Strengths category and 20 in the Opportunities category meaning that every single topic scored above the national average, which falls at the 50th percentile.

While these results are very good, they could be better. The club did not have any topics scoring in the Best in Class category. In addition, the club management would like to see many of the topics move from the Opportunities category to the Strengths category by the end of the next survey period.

Q: So how do they accomplish this?

A: Rely on their GPS!

Fortunately, the club management was provided with a list of drivers of their customer perceptions on two important items: Overall Guest Satisfaction and Intent to Return. These two items are the keys to business success. The NBRI analysis revealed two drivers for each of these items. For Overall Guest Satisfaction the two drivers were the customers' overall satisfaction with the club's restaurants and their perceived value of their membership relative to the cost of their membership and/or dues. The two drivers of Intent to Return included the customer's perceptions of the professionalism of the club's management and their perceptions regarding the overall friendliness and helpfulness of the club's staff. The club management now has a clear path to continued improvement and success. They need only to take action to improve customer perceptions on those four items and they will see improvement in a majority of the items on their next survey. However, just as we have to heed the instructions of our vehicle's GPS system to get to our destination, it is vital that the management at this club take quick action to address these drivers in order to see improvement in their next survey cycle. Just as the GPS will not drive the vehicle for us (at least not yet!), knowing the drivers will not help this club improve its scores if they do not take action to improve customer perceptions.

The Car Navigation Systems (Units GPS)

In the previous issue we had reported in portable navigation systems. But apart from those on the market, there are units that incorporate GPS and available in several cars either standard or optional. In the market, of course, there are after market choices.

Fixed navigation units have been put those in our lives, with a view to facilitating the movement of us. Unlike portable systems, fixed units are full potential, as it can have all the modern means of searching for the driver of a car (DVD, MP3, TV, etc.).

GPS = (Global Positioning System) Global Positioning System position. Principle of operation is a cluster of 29 satellites, in which the receiver is connected. The GPS was created strictly for military use in mid-1960, to become the leader of the citizen 30 years later and after having evolved accordingly.

The GPS abroad ...

Navigation systems in Europe, besides being more aware of the road network, and have all points of interest for a driver (gas stations, hotels, banks, restaurants, etc.). As have been, and guided by personal experience-at least for the moment ruled out a European who comes to Greece by road, to select a specific address in Athens and go to "nail" as we have done recently in our journey to Belgium. Navigation systems in Greece only recently (since 2004) has managed to "kaloupothei" and gain mapping, so that they can work the navigation systems. Thus, we are here-and-still behind other European countries.

But do positive steps climb. One negative for Greek is that the driver has to cope with the frequent changes in the road network of cities (monodromiseis, pedestrian etc.), so there really needs the GPS, can not be help.

Compare GPS Models and Get the Right One For Your Needs and Budget!

When I first got into the GPS market, I decided to compare GPS models to see if I could find the right one for me and my budget. Honestly, at the time, I didn't know very much about these nifty little devices. A friend had one, and I really liked it. I knew basically what they did, but I knew nothing about what features were popular, or even available.

Since Amazon is my favorite online retailer, I started there and read all their product descriptions. Of course, I saw that Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan were the industry leaders, in that order. Unfortunately, my initial happiness at finding such information was not long lived. I soon became confused by all the makes and models, all the features, and all the prices. If you're in the market for a GPS device, and you've been comparing GPS models, then I'm sure you're experiencing the same level of frustration that I felt. To help you out, let me tell you about some of my research. Hopefully, I can help you compare GPS models more easily and save you a fair amount of frustration.

So, let's dive right in!

There are three main manufacturers of GPS devices in the United States, Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan. Garmin sells about half the GPS's sold, while Tom Tom and Magellan each have about a twenty percent market share. All those other companies you hear about fight over the table scraps.

Garmin has two main lines of product, the nuvi and the StreetPilot. The nuvi is their newer line. Nuvis are smaller and sleeker and generally pack more features for the buck. You can get Garmin's nuvi 200 for less than $200. Their top of the line nuvi sells for slightly less than $900.

StreetPilots are an older model. They're a little clunkier than the nuvis. But since they are older, the prices on them are probably a little lower (feature per feature) than the nuvis. You don't have the range of features available on StreetPilots like you do on the nuvis. Personally, I would not hesitate to buy a StreetPilot. I would just make sure that it can do everything I would want.

Of course, you need to compare GPS models made by Garmin to its rivals, Tom Tom and Magellan. Tom Tom is the newcomer to the U.S. marketplace, but through aggressive marketing, pricing, and also through offering lots of innovative features on their devices, they've steadily taken market share away from both Garmin and Magellan.

I like the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition. Although it has an entry level price, it's not really an entry level unit. Are Tom Tom's as well made as Garmin? The buying public seems to think so. I don't think Tom Tom's units are quite as sleek looking as Garmin's but really that might not matter to you. If you're interested in Tom Tom, make sure you check out their GO series.

You can't compare GPS models completely and leave out Magellan. Time was when Magellan was the only GPS manufacturer. Then Garmin came along and took away a ton of their market share. Magellan should not be left out of your GPS comparisons, however. Their Maestro line is really great, offers lots of features, and dollar for dollar, offers as much or more than either Garmin or Tom Tom. I especially like their Maestro 4250. For the price, around $250, I think it's probably the best deal currently on the market.

All About Garmin Nuvi GPS

The Garmin nuvi GPS systems are versatile, reliable, convenient, and easy to use. Garmin has been the leader in GPS system technologies for years, and the Garmin nuvi GPS line proves that they continue to be still. There are many different models in the Garmin nuvi GPS series, and one of the favorite models of loyal consumers is the Garmin nuvi 260w.

The first great thing about the nuvi 260W that you will notice right away is the impressively wide display screen. There is no need to drive and squint and struggle to read your Garmin nuvi 260W. Youll then probably notice the competitive price of the unit, and also as you explore the nuvi you will see that it is very user friendly and simple to navigate with.

Right when you first pull the Garmin nuvi GPS out of the box, it is ready to use. It comes with preloaded street maps, complete with points of interest (POIs) in the database that includes hotels, gas stations, restaurants, and even knows the locations of ATMs. You can even enter your own custom points of interest and you can set proximity alerts to let you know of the approaching POI. This baby is so advanced that it even will talk to you while you are driving. The Garmin nuvi GPS unit will announce the name of streets, roads, and exits for you, keeping you safe as you drive by allowing you to keep your eyes on the road.

Once you use the color touch screen to enter your destination, multi dimensional maps and turn by turn directions will get you where you need to go reliably and safely. Not only that, but when you are not in the car, you can still have your Garmin nuvi GPS system close at hand. The slim, sleek design will fit nicely in your purse or even your pocket! The battery that the model uses is a rechargeable lithium ion battery so you dont have to keep it plugged in to use it. Hows that for versatility?

And finally, people love the Garmin nuvi GPS line because it is equipped with tons of tools that can be your lifesavers during your travels. There is a JPEG picture viewer, currency conversion tool, a converter for measurements, calculators, and world clocks complete with time zones. Since these navigational wonders are in fact so popular, they even come with Garmin Lock, a handy anti theft feature. And, to save the pictures and maps that come to your unit, there is an optional plug in SD card available that can also allow you to personalize your unit by adding additional features and options.

When you are in the market for a new GPS device, go out your front door and straight to a Garmin retailer, and check out the Garmin nuvi GPS line. Then, when you get back in your car with your new system, pull it out of the box and USE IT! It will be the best trip home youve ever had.

Fun and Games With TomToms and Satcoms

Since rising to popularity, sat-nav (satellite navigation) technology has already brought us much entertainment. Most prominent in the news have been the countless stories of car drivers trusting a little too unthinkingly in the commands issuing from their dashboard. Take the one, for instance, about a woman plunging her £96k Mercedes into the River Sence - perhaps, the clearest example you'll ever see of someone with more money than sense. Then there are the dozens of drivers who - to the continuing bemusement of wiser locals - have tried to cross a ford in the River Avon because "the voices told me to." One guy in New York even found himself driving into the path of an oncoming train.

Perhaps our fear that technology will one day rise up and kill us all isn't so far-fetched after all? Already, it seems to be making the odd sneaky attempt.

But maybe it's even worse than that. GPS systems aren't just targeting the individual, these days. Apparently, they've begun stepping up their ambitions: in Wales, a whole village finds itself under siege. It isn't the only one, either. A few villages alongside the route to Bristol Airport have recently found themselves to be situated in the helpless path of a satellite guided onslaught of heavy goods vehicles, their drivers apparently oblivious to the plans of our new GPS overlords. One village has even had to change the name of its main through road in a (probably) vain attempt at putting the sat-nav menace off its scent.

Still, let's not dwell on the coming technological apocalypse. After all, rich people driving into rivers isn't the only entertainment the world of GPS has to offer. In Britain, we now have the world's first "satcom", 230 Miles of Love. Set on the M6, an episode plays itself out as you drive, individual scenes being triggered by landmarks along the way. One download to your tomtom, and you'll be laughing all the way to Carlisle. Or Catthorpe, if you're going in the opposite direction - there are northbound and southbound versions, apparently.

As yet, there have been no reports of satcom listeners driving into ditches, though, so I wouldn't get your comedic hopes up too high. If by some improbability it proves to be more boring than the M6 itself, though, you could always go to Geovative.com and make your own. Or perhaps just download a guided tour of somewhere rather more interesting than a motorway, and ask your sat-nav to take you there. If you're lucky, it probably won't try to kill you in the process.

Finally, news reaches me of fun uses for GPS outside of the car driving community. These will even get you exercising!

What am I on about? Location-based gaming. Using handheld GPS units (mobile phones, say), an increasing number of people are taking to the streets to enact real life games of Pacman, among more original ideas. So, now the weather's improving, it's not just your own GPS that's out to get you, it's everyone else's as well. And a bunch of hungry ghosts.

Great. I think I might be staying indoors this autumn.

For a range of goods from computers to garden products, including a tomtom, lingerie, jewellery, LCD TVs, a GPS and even a four poster bed, Shopping.com is a great way to find products online, and includes product reviews.

GPS Tracking For Your Children - Know Where They Are This Halloween

Its nearly that time of year again, when the pumpkins come out and the kids like to dress up as bedsheet ghosts and go "Trick and Treating". With younger kids, the safety of the children isn't so much an issue because the parents will more often than not go with them, but once the children get a little older it is not uncommon for them to go around in an unsupervised group which could cause alot of stress and worry for the parents.

Trick and Treating is supposed to be fun. It is supposed to give the children a chance to experience dressing up, meeting people and generally socialising with others for one night of the year. Unfortunately, however, these events also present the possibility of danger to these children, especially when unsupervised.

So if you want to give your older children a sense of freedom, whilst knowing where the are at all times you should consider using a GPS Tracking device. These small units can be discretely placed on your child or children, either in their pocket, or if the product allows as a wristband or watch, and they allow you track the whereabouts of you child using online mapping software such as Google Earth or Microsoft Maps.

The devices are 'always on' and use government satellites to pinpoint the location of your child, so you have peace of mind knowing exactly where they are. You can also setup alerts to notify you if your child crosses a virtual boundary (known as a Geofence) and many modern devices have a panic button facility so if your child gets into danger the device can send an SMS text alert to your mobile phone.

GPS Tracking devices can be using in many applications, such as tracking your pets, your car, valued possessions or young and old family members. As the technology becomes more and more mainstream the cost of the tracking devices falls which means they become more affordable to the average family.

That said, the cost of a GPS Tracking device to monitor the whereabouts of your child is a small price to pay to know that they are safe and sound.

Wearaboutz are a U.K. company providing GPS Tracking devices for Child tracking, Pet tracking, Fleet Management and Vehicle tracking and much more.

Buying a GPS Tracking System Then Carefully Research First

There are a great many places on the internet where you can read about and discover what gps tracking is. One of the difficulties is choosing who the best companies are and what si the best system for you to use. This problem is even greater for businesses and commercial groups looking to buy large volumes of this technology.

It is almost mainstream now that gps tracking is a useful technology. It is often featured in films and TV and shows the ability to spy and locate almost anything. In reality this isn't true as there are some technological barriers to making almost anything trackable in the way you see in the movies.

GPS tracking is now an industry made up of many companies who specialize in particular applications of it. This can include gps vehicle tracking, package tracking and container tracking which are three of the most popular. But it can also involve more sophisticated systems such as offender tracking or ship tracking.

As a potential purchaser of a gps tracking system, you should be careful as to who you are deciding your make your purchase from. You need to ensure that the quality of the tracking device is high and that company has successfully implemented your required type of gps tracking in the past. Many companies may occupy a high position in search engine results on the internet but their quality of business many not equal it. Post implementation support is the most fundamental issue as once the system is up and running you as a new user of this technology will need to be carefully and sensitively supported by your gps tracking service provider. Careful research before purchasing will save you a lot of money and potential problems later.

Research Into the Increasing Use of GPS Vehicle Tracking Systems

The Basics, What Is It?

GPS tracking systems integrate a gps receiver, a mobile phone modem and some firmware that is packaged into what is known as a gps tracking device. This device is then connected via the cellular network to a backend server system. This system, often internet based, but can also be installed at a users' facility, is then used to manage each tracking device. The server system is commonly known as a tracking platform and contains the main user interface between the user and the tracking device.

The interface itself is a combination of software comprising mapping, databases and other software programs that manage the communication between the device and the tracking platform.

The key component in the entire system are the U.S. Government's constellation of Global Positioning System satellites that are managed by the Department of Defence. Europe is also developing its own GPS satellite network which is known as Galileo. Russia also has a system called GLONASS.

Why Do Companies Use GPS Tracking Systems?

My research has discovered many reasons as to why businesses are installing and utilizing GPS tracking systems:

1. It is increasingly observed that vehicle tracking systems can reduce vehicle fleet costs by identifying excessive speeding, irregular vehicle use, hard braking and general vehicle wear and tear.

2. Companies see significant increases in mobile workforce productivity. Areas where this is seen is in improving the efficiencies in hours worked by employees by identifying excessive lunch breaks, time spent on a customer's location compared with the employee's own report and using the company's vehicle for personal use.

3. When combined with a CRM program, GPS tracking systems are able to improve customer service. Examples are being able identify the closest support engineer to a customer call, telling the customer how far away the support engineer is and giving accurate time of arrival estimates.

4. Companies have been able to reduce their overheads in a number of ways. These include being able to identify unnecessary vehicle in the fleet which are underutilized as well as being able to evaluate employee performance to target employees who are unreliable or breaking company rules and replace them with more efficient employees.

5. Company managers have been able to simplify their reporting and asset management through enabling realtime reporting and utilizing the mapping and reporting features of gps tracking platforms to give a common operating picture of all the company's assets.

Businesses are seeing very quick return on investment after the purchase and implementation of a gps tracking system. ROI is usually within a six to twelve month time-frame thereafter the system has paid for itself and actually begins to contribute to increasing the bottom line finances.

Because of this, reports of Alzheimer suffers getting lost are a common occurance. It is stated that around 60% of Alzheimer sufferers will end up lost at least once in their life. The scary fact is that if these sufferers aren't found, they could end up in a critical position or even dead.

Naturally alot of research and money is focused on drugs and cures, but a GPS Tracking solution is the perfect solution to the actual problems then people face - losing their loved ones when they stray from the home.

Wearaboutz provide a practical GPS Tracking solution to help deal with the problem of lost or missing sufferers, and one of these emblems of practicality is a device that could monitor the whereabouts of an Alzheimer's patient - an Alzheimer GPS tracking device.

An Alzheimer GPS tracking device can be as simple as a necklace equipped with GPS technology or a GPS wristwatch. A good GPS tracking manufacturer will even supply a device equipped with a locking device in order to keep the patient from removing it, whether accidentally or deliberately.

Wearaboutz are committed to developing devices to help with the future of Alzheimer GPS tracking. We understand that when you love someone suffering from Alzheimers you want to make sure that every stone is turned to find a solution to help protect them.

This holiday season, many people will be traveling on the roads in order to see family and friends. There will be traffic, incidents on the road, and many unhappy families waiting to get to their destination. Don't be one of these families. Buy a GPS navigation system and by-pass the crowded highways by plotting a course ahead of time that will allow you to use side roads and lesser known highways.

Do you find looking at maps frustrating? Most people do, which is why they take the highway most of the time when traveling. This is what causes the highways to become congested during the holiday season. No turnarounds needed, no backtracking, you will be able to find your way even after making a wrong turn. You should be spending time with your family during the holidays, not spending hours trying to figure out where you went wrong.

GPS units are available with hundreds of maps, downloadable maps, points of interest which include restaurants, ATM machines, gas stations, hotels, and much more. You will be able to plan out your entire trip - restroom breaks, gas stations, and all - without having to rely on out-of-date maps and misinformation. Even if you misspell a street name, the GPS system will correct the mistake.

With a color monitor, easy to push buttons, and easy to read menus, you will never have to sit in traffic again. Many units have alerts that will let you know of upcoming traffic, weather, and other issues that may slow you down. Alternate routes will become available.

Some units even have turn-by-turn voice directions that will make driving even easier. You can concentrate on the road while listening to the directions given.

This year, make your holiday travel plans easy by investing in a GPS navigation system. You will arrive at your destination without all the stress from driving. You can save the route and use it again when you leave. The GPS system will reverse it for you. Save time, money, and the frustration of holiday driving by using a GPS unit.
