Micro GPS Mail Logger

Micro GPS Mail Logger

The Micro GPS Mail Logger allows you to track your mail - at a price, of course, to the tune of $696 to be exact. It measures 0.5" thick and is bendable, and can be used in parcels and even envelopes.

The GPS Mail Logger records the global position of your mail throughout the delivery process. Once you receive your mail, plug in the GPS Mail Logger’s MicroSD card and find out where your mail has been in seconds. With time stamps and recorded downtime you can find out where your mail has been and if it was delayed or misrouted. With GPS you get your mail’s exact satellite location, how fast it was traveling, and even its altitude throughout the delivery process.

At that price, it must be something pretty important. I'd settle for registered mail at the moment though.

Honda GPS Navigation Shows Crime Map

Honda GPS Navigation Shows Crime Map

Honda is going to feature crime maps into their in-dash GPS navigation system that will provide a crime rating for each “region” (whatever that is). The system will be deployed in Japan, where the police keep good statistics per district. It will show areas where cars have been stolen or broken into. I looked at a similar crime map for San Francisco and I’m not sure how useful this would be around here: cars are broken into everywhere in the city, lol

NDrive G800 GPS Navigator

NDrive G800 GPS Navigator

What makes the NDrive G800 GPS Navigator so special? It has been labeled as the first sat-nav device that features actual photo navigation, but then again that could be either a positive or negative aspect, depending on where you're coming from. Some of the features include :-

  • 4.3" display

  • 8GB of internal memory

  • Music and video playback

  • Integrated FM transmitter

  • Bluetooth connectivity

  • Games
It retails for £314.90 after taxes. Judging by the currency it is priced in, you won't be able to find US maps here, only European ones.

Anti GPS Tracker

Anti GPS Tracker

Judging by the number of GPS trackers we have in the market these days, it makes sense to come out with an Anti GPS Tracker. This device blocks all GPS signals within a 5 meter radius, making it virtually impossible for you to be tracked. It is plugged inside your vehicle's cigarette lighter in order to draw its power from. One major drawback is this - your very own GPS navigation device will be out of commission, too, so make sure you're familiar with the roads around you before you make use of this puppy. The Anti GPS Tracker retails for £149.

Altek GPS-enabled Digital Camera

Altek GPS-enabled Digital Camera

Fancy this - Altek has released a GPS-enabled digital camera that geotags photos for you automatically, allowing you to cross-reference this metadata with other mapping tools such as Google Maps, Google Earth, or Flickr's geotag-enabled galleries when you get home. Perfect for those who can't seem to remember where they have gone during the last vacation - I suppose this is more useful if one visits a natural forest reserve where signboards aren't exactly commonplace. Features of this GPS-enabled camera include an 8-megapixel resolution and a 3" touch screen display. No idea on when it will be released though.

This sixth generation Archos will probably see the long overdue Archos 606 and 706 hit the streets. Hopefully the battery life will be able to keep up with this new functionality.

Video: Enkin, GPS based augmented reality for Google?s Android

The concept is simple, point your phone at the horizon and look at your screen to get more information about your surroundings. Rafael Spring and Max Braun wrote a program Enkin for Google's Android that does just that as their submission to the Android Developer Challenge. With the recent announcement that KML is now an official standard for marking up maps I can totally see a future where you can grab different data depending on your situation to overlay on your world or even share the data you created with your private friends or even the world! Enough hypothesizing, check out what these two guys did below and don't forget to download the PDF saying how they did it.

Motorola official with GPS-enabled Smart Rider phone

Motorola Smart Rider

Back in February we saw Moto Smart Rider passing the FCC hurdle, and now, almost two months later it's here. Of course, it was announced at the CTIA where we expected much more from America's struggling handset makers, but "it is what it is," as they say.

Anyway, the Smart Rider is everything but an eye-appealing device. Then again, Moto may be targeting a bit older audience who don't like all the mambo-jumbo of the modern smartphones. In that sense, if they pitch it properly, this may end up a success.

As for the specs — aside from the built-in GPS which is accompanied with powerful navigation features such as voice-guided directions, real-time traffic reports and automatic re-routing — the Smart Rider also features 2.8 inch screen, Bluetooth, and voice activation. Interested buyers will have to wait till June, when Moto said it will start selling the device around the world… Full release follows after the break.

PRESS RELEASE - Motorola, Inc. today announced the debut of the Motorola Smart Rider phone, an innovative in-vehicle solution featuring GPS navigation, interactive voice activation, Bluetooth wireless technology and exceptional audio quality that's sure to make this phone an integral part of every driver's journey. A unique hands-free solution, the Smart Rider phone uses GSM technology to enhance user experience by ensuring that users can converse, navigate and tend to business while on-the-go.

The Smart Rider increases convenience and quality of communication:

  • Bluetooth technology allows users to move freely from the home or office straight into the vehicle while having active calls, contact information and other personal data automatically transferred from the handset to the in-vehicle device

  • Multiple user profiles grant secure access to personalized phonebook settings for up to three drivers on the Smart Rider phone

  • Interactive voice activation makes the phone hassle-free for drivers

  • A robust built-in microphone and speakerphone ensures an exceptionally clear, sharp sound.

The Smart Rider phone also offers feature-rich GPS services:

  • Turn-by-turn navigation and voice-guided driving instructions

  • Precise on-screen directions and detailed maps on a 2.8" high resolution, sharp color display

  • Real-time traffic reports and automatic re-routing

  • Enabling of location based services (LBS) and fleet management applications.

"The Smart Rider is the next generation in-vehicle phone, designed to operate in unison with the user's daily needs and environment. The phone re-defines what communication on-the-go is all about, and the main focus was placed on transforming the user experience. We are confident that the worldwide success of this flagship product will speak for itself," said Golan Haver, business unit manager for Motorola Car Phones.

Availability

The Smart Rider will be sold worldwide and will be available on the market in June 2008.

Mio and ATX to Develop a Connected GPS

Mio and ATX to Develop a Connected GPS

Mio is partnering with ATX, a “telematics” company, to build connected GPS devices. ATX will provide the wireless know-how and infrastructure and Mio will integrate it into its proprietary navigation software, a move that we think was planned for a long time when Mio decided to create its own software instead of using a third party’s product.

This is clearly the next step for GPS devices: they have to be connected to receive traffic info, real-time updates, gas prices and most importantly be able to receive an address from a computer (think from Google Maps) and be managed from there.

It?s a Widescreen World
Mio Moov 300 and 310 both feature a 4.3-inch widescreen window to the world of navigation, which allows for more on-screen information. The devices also incorporate text-to-speech functionality to call out actual street names when making turns, to help drivers keep their eyes on the road. Mio also tackles one of the biggest challenges facing drivers today ? traffic. All of these features for less than $200; being square never sounded so good.

Sync Up ? Faster!

SiRFInstantFixII can find and lock a GPS signal in as few as five seconds during typical device start-ups, almost half a minute faster than other GPS devices. For users in cities where tall buildings can impede GPS signals ? creating ?urban canyons? ? a fast signal requisition can be the difference between missing a turn and arriving on-time.

Mio Moov Product Specifications
With pre-loaded maps of all 50 U.S. States and Puerto Rico, Mio Moov is ready to operate in minutes with no computer set-up required.
